Composer, James Woodward, visits Flanagan
February 25th 2008

The Composer of "You Were There" visited Flanagan High School on Monday, February 25, 2008. James Woodward flew into town Sunday Evening at the request of Mr. Rivero and Mr. Maina.
He began Monday with a "Meet the Composer" forum for Students. He entertained questions about composition and music theory. Later that afternoon, James was the focus of the Wind Orchestra Rehearsal as they are preparing his work, "You Were There." James gave his "Play by
Play" of the piece as he conducted the ensemble. He then listened as Mr. Rivero conducted and rehearsed the Wind Orchestra. All of the students thorughly enjoyed meeting, rehearsing with, and interacting with a "live" Composer!
Mr. Woodward flew back to Phoenix Tuesday morning where he will begin a new piece commissioned by Mr. Rivero, Mr. Maina, and the Flanagan Band Program.
