The Falcon Sound Marching Band has had a history of success based on a well established foundation of accomplishment. Within the past two years, they had their first undefeated season and made finals in the Bands of America Orlando Regional. They have competed all over the State of Florida earning numerous First Place Trophies and receiving Straight Superiors at all FBA District Marching Evaluations. Also in December of 2008, the band performed in the Emmy-nominated ABC Walt Disney Christmas Parade, hosted by Regis Philbin, which aired Christmas Morning. This year, the Falcon Sound will compete against over 30 bands from all over the country at the Bands of America Super Regional in Atlanta, GA
Flanagan is not only renowned for the marching aspect, but also in the winter and spring concert band activities. Flanagan boasts two performing Concert Bands, the Symphonic Winds and the Wind Orchestra, and entertains all sorts of crowds in many different venues. Flanagan concert bands also rest on a firm history of accomplishment. In the past, the Wind Orchestra performed at the 2001 BOA Concert Festival in South Carolina, and most recently was named the National Champion of the Grand National Adjudicators Invitational in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Flanagan Winter Guards have had a solid and continuous foundation from there beginning and have become one of the premier performing groups in not only the SFWGA (South Florida Winter Guard Association), but nationally as an elite member of WGI (Winter Guard International)
Flanagan Winter Guards were founded in 1996,the same year as the school.
After a successful first marching band season, the instruction of Tim Lee helped to bring the guard to the indoor performance arena. For the first several years of its existence, the Winter Guard competed exclusively in the South Florida Winter Guard Association Circuit, initially in the Novice class.
Within two years, the group was promoted to “A” class, thanks to the continued efforts of Tim Lee, and Nikki Drake, a tech at the time, and a former captain of the Cooper City High School Color Guard. During its third year, the guard branched out into competition on the regional level, making appearances at the Winter Guard International Regional’s in both Miami and Tampa, Florida. Each performance brought a new level of success and recognition. By the 1998 season, the program had expanded to two units, competing in the “A” and Novice classes. Throughout the next few years, the guard continued to grow under the instruction of Daniel Helton, Bradley Watkins, Ricky Garcia, and Amy Hernandez. In 2001, Dean Broadbent and Emma Roberts moved to Pembroke Pines and started teaching the Flanagan Color Guards. In 2002, the “A” Guard and Open Guard both moved up to the next highest level of competition. The Novice Guard moved to “B” class where they stayed until 2004, at which time, they were promoted to “A” class. The top guard moved to Scholastic Open class winning the SFWGA championship two years in a row as well as receiving the Bronze Medal at the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
Flanagan was the 2008 & 2012 WGI Scholastic World Champions.
